My name is Aakrit Singhal, and I’m a 16 year old AI and Machine Learning Enthusiast and Student Researcher. Over the course of my AI Journey, I have been working to make impact through several projects. For instance, I am working on a COVID-19 startup, which won the MIT COVID-19 Challenge: India Turning the Tide a few months back. Moreover, I also beleive in quality STEM Education and its access and avalaibility in rural parts of India, and have found an NGO to work towards the same. In my free time, I like to work on several programming projects that I am passionate about.

From the time I ever heard the word ‘computation’ to now, it has been a great journey for me in terms of learning technology. I still remember the day when I was introduced to Artificial Intelligence by a video explaining the technology behind self-driving cars. From then, I have continuously explored the field, and the subject areas it has to offer. I have been able to work on several personal projects involving AI and Machine Learning, talk to experts in the field, and also pursue research in my field of interest.

In this process of exploring, this summer, I got a chance to attend the Inspirit AI Scholars Program. The best part about this program was the project-based learning they had and the experience and motivation of the mentors. My instructor was Saahil Jain, a Masters Student at Stanford University and a Machine Learning Researcher. From his knowledge to his passion, everything made me highly intrigued by Machine Learning and its potential. I worked on a project including Computer Visions, wherein I built an image classifier using a Convolutional Neural Network to detect Distracted Drivers, and their specific distracted states, using the VGG16 Architecture.

As a part of the Inspirit AI Ambassadors Program, my Blog series will be on Natural Language Processing, and particularly Sentiment Analysis. Sentiment Analysis uses NLP to interpret and classify emotions and human sentiment in subjective data. This is extremely important for businesses; for instance it could help analyse thousands of customer reviews to indicate and interpret if customers are satisfied with the product pricing and customer service. Hence, the aim of these blogs would be to give an introduction to NLP techniques and Sentiment Analysis, explain the algorithms it uses, and its applications and potential.

The target audience for this series would be anyone with a passion for Artificial Intelligence and all the people curious to know the intricacies of its application in various areas of exploration, like NLP discussed in this series. Through this, I hope to spread passion among people for AI and its potential to develop and aid in human functions.
